Aadhaar No Longer Valid for Date of Birth Proof

In a recent update, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made a significant change to its acceptable documents for proof of date of birth. The popular Aadhaar card is no longer valid for updating or correcting your date of birth in your EPF account. This move follows recent court rulings and clarification from the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) itself, emphasizing that Aadhaar is not designed to serve as a standalone proof of date of birth.

Now What? Alternative Documents for Date of Birth Proof:

Don't fret! Several other documents remain valid for updating your date of birth in your EPFO account. Here are some alternatives to consider:

1. Birth Certificate: Issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, this is the most definitive proof of date of birth.

2. Matriculation/School Leaving Certificate: These documents typically contain your name and date of birth, making them acceptable alternatives.

3. University Degree Certificate: Similar to school certificates, university degrees often include your date of birth and act as valid proof.

4. Service Records: For government employees, service records issued by their respective departments can serve as proof of date of birth.

5. Passport: A valid passport is an internationally recognized document and readily accepted by the EPFO.

6. PAN Card: Though primarily for tax purposes, the PAN card also contains your date of birth and can be used for EPFO updates.

7. Government Pension Payment Order: For pensioners, their official pension payment order is a valid proof of date of birth.

8. Domicile Certificate: Issued by the government, a domicile certificate can serve as proof of date of birth in certain cases.

9. Medical Certificate and Affidavit: In the absence of the above documents, a medical certificate issued by a Civil Surgeon accompanied by an affidavit sworn before a court is acceptable.

Taking Action: How to Update Your Date of Birth in EPFO:

1. Gather your documents: Ensure you have the required documents as per the list above.

2. Log in to the EPFO Member Portal: Access your EPF account using your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password.

3. Navigate to 'Manage Profile': Locate the 'Manage Profile' section within the portal.

4. Update Date of Birth: Click on 'Update Date of Birth' and follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Upload Documents: Scan and upload the required document(s) for proof of date of birth.

6. Submit and Track Request: Submit your request and track its progress within the portal.

Remember:

1. Maintaining an accurate date of birth in your EPF account is crucial for receiving benefits at retirement.

2. This update applies to both online and offline methods of date of birth update.

3. For assistance, reach out to the EPFO helpline or visit your nearest regional office.

The removal of Aadhaar as a valid document for date of birth proof requires adjusting to new procedures. However, with proper information and action, ensuring a smooth update and securing your retirement savings remains easy. Let's stay informed and navigate these changes together.
